It’s been some time since she stood before the Temple wall. To her left, the men sung out from their hearts, up the vessel straight to heaven. And the children, whose patience could but last a second, playfully swarmed like bumble bees amid the praying women to the right - as if diving in and out of a hive of imagination.
“May I approach the Wall?” she asked holding her breath, trembling to what may be the reply.
Why did she return? She swore she never would. Got everything she asked for the last time she was there. So were with the times before, grateful for the miracles when they appeared - yet they all went array.
“What a disappointment!” she never failed to cry foul. Each time declaring the Wall a farse when her prayer answered mustered to nothing, until alas – she denounced her Maker a fable, abandoned her faith, and her burn sped her into the darkness, drawing her shield thinner, the vultures began to circle.
She was all too happy to trail them to the circus under the red sun. Greeted by clowns seducing the word of the swine, of making dreams come true was but a steal away from another’s hard labor. Then there were their kings, queens, gods and goddesses; drenched in luxury only achieved by betrayal. And the thug is looked upon with glee; inspiring the liar and the cheat to go all the way, where only when the blood stains their hands, the conditions apply for the club of privilege. Oh, what a party, shun of responsibility, wild with revenge no matter the excuse, “Hooray, Hoorah, Your Jackpot Haza” so flashes the billboards day and night.
But now she was back disheveled, in the rags spared by the life of the easy way out. Her lids glooming heavy at the Holy ground in shame.
Is it a new prayer?
Should it come in this around, what would she do with it then? Would she tend to it devotedly; close to her heart; nourish it while humming her gentle lullabies like a newborn in need of growing strong; never give up. Then what about the year after and the next and after that; with every stage it sprouts, it will need to learn the ways of the world. Will she teach it right from wrong? Ensure they made the right friends; hold them in high regard; never give up. Then when it’s their turn, would she listen? To stand their ground for her sake; to guide her correctly; in full trust; never give up, knowing that this is the only way a prayer answered can come true – together to the end and never give up.
And she could feel the sun against her back, growing warm withering her shadow, pushing her feet closer towards the Temple’s Wall, where she then heard the Guard speak.
“The Wall is always open to answer a prayer - with no conditions.”
